TEEN LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS
Cultivating the Next Generation of Leaders
For Valley Leadership, cultivating the next generation of leaders begins during the teenage years. Through Valley Teen Leadership, our core young leader development program, and other strategic partnerships, Valley Leadership is educating teens about our community, helping them develop leadership skills and inspiring them to get actively involved in their community. Current Teen Leadership programs include:
Valley Teen Leadership
Valley Teen Leadership has been in existence for over 12 years. Valley Teen Leadership was created to cultivate a next generation of leaders by offering teens the opportunity to develop leadership skills. This program engages 50 Valley teens in an annual multi-month program that provides education about community issues, develops leadership skills through motivational and inspirational activities, and offers opportunities to develop lasting, positive relationships. The program is open at all High School sophomores and juniors throughout the Valley.
Applications are accepted during the Fall of each year, selection is made through written essays and personal interviews in December, and the program runs from January through May the following year. Click here for the 2010 program application.
Communities in Schools Partnership
Valley Teen Leadership continues to expand with abbreviated programming for smaller groups. Through the partnership with Communities in Schools, 20 students participate in a 12-week program where they learn leadership skills and explore some of the challenges that the Valley faces including domestic violence and drug abuse. The program empowers teens to come up with solutions to address our community's most pressing challenges.
